Minnaars were formed by Neil Shaun Humphrey in early 2008, after leaving the now defunct Try Harder Records (Foals, Blood Red Shoes) flagship band “Tired Irie”; adding guitarist Gavin Thorpe, bassist Daniel Faulkner, singer Adam Pickering and drummer Ben Cropley. At their first ever show, supporting Cats and Cats and Cats in Leicester, the band were approached by Tom Woodhead of ¡Forward, Russia! with reference to letting Woodhead record and produce the band. With Woodhead as their engineer and producer, the group recorded their debut full-length, Of Our Delirious Former Loving Hours, which was released in Japan and mainland Europe in the summer of 2009. The featured songs were the first compositions Minnaars had written as a group and a marked progression can be heard throughout the album, with album closer "Are Lovers" demonstrating a clear shift into the electronica influenced sound the band became more known for in their last year together.
As of March 2011 the band announced they would be going on a indefinite hiatus to work and concentrate on other projects.
